During the early stages of the 2020 Democratic primary, Joe Biden pledged to choose a woman as his running mate if he secured the nomination. After winning the nomination, many Black activists within the Democratic Party demanded Biden select a Black woman. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer was being vetted, as her selection could have helped in a key swing state. However, these Black activists warned that failing to choose a Black woman would lead to a lack of enthusiasm among Black voters, and Trump's reelection. In response to this pressure, Biden ultimately selected Kamala Harris as his running mate. Why was it a mistake for Biden to cave to this pressure, and how did it embolden these activists, and pave the way for Trump to win in 2024? Join the conversation and get answers to these questions and more on According2Sam episode #313.
