The progressive voter data firm Catalist recently published its comprehensive analysis of the 2024 presidential election, titled "What Happened in 2024." The report provides a detailed picture of how Kamala Harris lost and how Donald Trump won. Trump won by assembling a broad coalition of voters across age groups, genders, races, education levels, and income brackets. Compared to the 2020 election, he gained support among nearly every demographic, while Harris saw declines across almost every group. The only demographics where she held steady were Black and White women. How is the Democratic Party’s focus on identity politics and demographic targeting contributing to its loss of support among key voter groups it has traditionally relied on?
